Revival Meeting at Union Hill

I was privileged to be the guest preacher for a series of meetings with my friend, Bill Barnett, pastor of the Union Hill Baptist Church in Oneonta, Alabama, April 19-22.  We had a fantastic meeting.  The emphasis for the week was on the Christian Life.  Brother Bill asked if I would do a Christian Life Emphasis (a mini -Keswick convention.)  I was delighted.

I commend this faithful pastor for the prayerful preparation that went into this meeting. During the weeks prior to the “revival meeting” Brother Bill met with me more than once to discuss the emphasis of the meeting and to pray.  There were special prayer meetings in preparation for the meeting.  He also met with the worship leader, a young man, Andrew Nunnelly, the student minister at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Anniston, Alabama.  Andrew gave excellent leadership to the music and worship during the meeting.

The prayerful preparation on the part of pastor and people made a noticeable difference in the impact of God’s word during the week.  I would say that the congregation was ready for a meeting with God.

It is a very rare thing for me to receive written comments about a meeting from members of the congregation.  However, I have just received from the pastor, one month after the revival, two pages of comments by the members of the church. I will share just a few in expression of my gratitude to the pastor and people.

Tuesday night reminded me that God makes the impossible possible and reaches those who are unreachable.  Wednesday night reminded me that we all who have accepted Christ the Holy Spirit is within us to call on in times of need…and sometimes our greatest need is to remember that.

The Holy Spirit must be President in you life, not just present.

Dr.Willmore talked about how special our church is and wanted us to realize how we need to appreciate each other, our pastor, and the spirit of our church. (I commented on the wonderful unity of the church…and the truly joyful and happy spirit I found there.)

I remember Dr. Willmore saying, ‘Hear what I say, don’t say what you think I said, you will get it wrong.  Hear what I say and not what you think I said.’ (I often say this…it is true some people hear preachers say things the preacher never actually said.)

Enjoyed every night.  Monday night I felt the Holy Spirit moving in the service.

Faith that has not been tested cannot be trusted.

Hesitation is disobedience.  ( Referring to putting God on hold.)

It has been a long time since we had attended a revival meeting.  Every evening we went home telling revival, and refreshed and closer to God.  It was a good revival.  We enjoyed Dr. Willmore and Andrew is truly a servant of God.  What a special young man (Andrew Nunnelly).

These and all the other comments encouraged me very much.   RDW
